Intelligent transportation systems
Automotive
The automotive domain is used, as the basic domain to evaluate relevante algorithms and design methods in industrial applications; in particular, the vehicle stability control is analysed.
The main aspects are:
- characterization of control schemes with also wireless sensors embedded in the tires which can provide information about some critical parameters, such as the grip coefficient;
- the determination of a control scheme that takes into account the dynamics of concurrent processes in the electronic control unit, and implementation problems of the controller into modern vehicle control unit.
Automated Traffic Management
In recent years, this research area has been greatly stimulated, both in road traffic context and in air traffic context.
Road traffic
In order to improve energy efficiency and comfort of land transport, we propose to use the ICT platform services with the following capabilities:
exchange of transport systems information throught a heterogeneous wireless network based on multi-modal mobile devices, including mobile cellular networks, inter-vehicular networks and wireless networks;
the use of such information, to support local decisions of individual agents, to improve energy efficiency and the comfort of a multi-agent systems, allows the reduction of CO2 emissions, and ensures the safety of drivers and road operators.
Air traffic
The increasing of sky and airports traffic, both in Europe and worldwide, requires theoretical basis for the formal validation of procedures for air traffic management.
The main aspects are:
analysis of mathematical tools and formal validation in a high-risk context for defining and introducing new procedures and standards to increase the safety;
analysis of interconnected systems properties based on the component systems properties and on the type of interconnection properties, for a reduction of the complexity of the validation procedures
